Everything is a Remix is a four-part video series about influence and appropriation in creation. Produced by Kirby Ferguson to simplify and help make more accessible the concepts brought forward by Lawrence Lessig in his book Free Culture. Everything is a Remix explores much of the elements of pop culture that we love and exposes their roots. His biggest example is Disney. Back when Walt Disney was first creating movies, they took many of the stories that have been around for decades that were in the public domain and expanded upon them. They’ve since copywritten them such that you’ll never be able to adapt any of their stories again. They didn’t come up with the story of the Little Mermaid, they simple borrowed it. Everything is a Remix uncovers these details and presents them in a beautiful context that’s both eye opening and easy to consume. It’s been wonderful watching this series grow and evolve over the past one and a half years.

Snowboarder William Hughes shreds the gnar down the French Alps for an otherworldly late-night run, while emersed in a suit of LEDs.

Sutton, who has created work for the likes of Hermès, Burberry and The New York Times, spent three nights on a skidoo with his trusty Red Epic camera at temperatures of -25C to snap Hughes carving effortlessly through the deep snow, even enlisting his own father to help maintain the temperamental suit throughout the demanding shoot. “Filming in the suit was the most surreal thing I’ve done in 20 years of snowboarding,” says Hughes of the charged salopettes. “Luckily there was plenty of vin rouge to keep me warm, and Jacob’s enthusiasm kept everyone going through the cold nights.”

Having grown up in the pop culture boom of the 80′s I know the difference between the original days of VH-1 and MTV. Whitney was definitely a VH-1 pop star, but when the music video for “How Will I Know” hit MTV in November 1985, it helped Whitney “cross over” and ultimately launched her into the stratosphere of superstardom. Washington state Rep. Maureen Walsh (R-Walla Walla) chokes back tears as she speaks candidly in support of the state’s bill to legalize same-sex marriages.

Walsh spoke during the Wednesday debate about the bond she shared with her late husband and her desire for all couples to be able to experience that kind of connection. She also spoke about her love for her lesbian daughter and wanting to someday throw her daughter a wedding.

The bill passed 55 to 43 in favor of the law which makes the bill effectively a law. It passed through state senate last week, and Gov. Chris Gregoire had previously stated publicly that she has full intention to sign it right away.

Unfortunately, same-sex couples will have to wait at least until June before they can get married — and that’s only if opponents of gay rights are cannot garner enough support in obtaining the required number of signatures necessary for a referendum. (Let’s cross our fingers).

If opponents` succeed, marriage between same-sex couples in Washington will have to wait until the state’s voters cast their vots at the ballot in November. The latest poll numbers show an near-even split between those would approve same-sex marriages and those who would ban them.

“You know, years ago my daughter was in elementary school. Many of you have met my daughter, she’s a fabulous girl. She’s wonderful. My boys are great too, but my daughter is just something special. She was the light of her fathers eyes.


“And she went to school and there was a whole group of kids just picking on another kid. And you know, my daughter stood up for that kid. Even though it wasn’t the popular thing to do, she knew it was the right thing to do.


“I was never more proud of my kid, knowing that she was speaking against the vocal majority on behalf of the rights of the minority. To me, it is incumbent upon us as legislators in this state to do that. That is why we are here.

Well the mother of all Superbowl bets has been won. Brooklyn Brewery bet Harpoon Brewery that whomever’s hometown team lost in the Superbowl would have to serve the other’s beer in their tasting room for one week. Additionally all staff would need to wear the victor’s jersey for that week. Well, we all know who lost.

“It is difficult to calculate the shame that accrues to a brewery that must pour its competitor’s flagship beer through its home taps,” said Hindy. “And wearing the opposition’s jerseys—you take your life in your hands when you wear a Boston jersey here in New York.”

I love colorful sugary fluids just as much as the next guy, but I can honestly say I’ve never had a Jarrito. I do feel it has a certain cult status that needs to be embraced. No longer just an item on the bottom shelf in aisle 9 (the international food aisle), Jarritos is going mainstream my friends, and with flavors like red, yellow, orange and green your taste buds will be wowed beyond belief. Named Postive Contact after a song of the same name of their first album the brew will b a 9% ABV hybrid of beer and cider. “Brewed with wood-pressed Fuji apples, roasted farro, a handful of cayenne peppers and a late dose of fresh cilantro”, the result will be a Belgian style with a light straw color that is both fruity, and warm in flavor. I’m sure the cayenne helps with the later.
